Announcing World Bread Day 2011 – Bake Bread for World Bread Day!

It is about time to announce the 6th edition of World Bread Day, that takes place on October 16th again. No I didn’t forget, I was just quite busy with the 7th anniversary of my blog. But now I can focus on this important day.

Some years ago the International Union of Bakers and Bakers-Confectioners (IUB) declared October 16 as World Bread Day. Back in 2006 I adopted it as a (food)blogger event. This event has nothing to do with IUB, who actually seems not to care about the event anymore. But we do! Every year more bloggers participated in WBD, hopefully this year, too. So, I would like to invite you again:

Bake a bread for World Bread Day!

Let’s honor the day and be grateful that we have enough food. Not all of us are this lucky. On October 16 also takes place World Food Day. October 16 is a day that should heighten our awareness of the world food problem and strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty. Of course we can not solve this problem by baking a bread, but perhaps some of us will share their baked bread with someone who is not as lucky as we are.

Nevertheless I want you to have fun baking bread for this day! Make your favorite loaf, a new creation or one you wanted to bake since a long time. If you have no clue what to bake visit the World Bread Roundups (can be found on the left sidebar). I am sure you will find some inspiration!

I’m looking forward to see a huge basket filled with breads from all over the world again!
