Invitation to participate: Swiss National Day – Red, white or Swiss

„Not until we leave home can we truly appreciate it.“

Soon, on August 1st Switzerland is celebrating its National Day*.

Some of you may know I’m an expat living in Andalucia (Spain) and sometimes homesick of Switzerland.

So would you like to celebrate this day with me? If yes, I invite you to cook or bake something red, white or Swiss for this special day.

Swiss National Day - Red, white or Swiss

Of course you don’t have to be Swiss to participate. Just let inspire you by traditional Swiss dishes, like Rösti, Fondue, Zopf, Aelpermagronen, Birchermüesli. If you don’t know or like Swiss Food at all you can also prepare something red or/and white. Both colors represent the Swiss flag.

I’m looking forward to see your recipes! I’m sure they will help me to reduce my homesickness. ;-)

How to participate:

  1. Cook/bake something red, white or Swiss, take pictures (if possible) and blog about it between now and 29 July 2008 (feel free to write your post in your language)
  2. Your post should include a link back to this post
  3. Email me at kochtopf(at)gmail.com with the subject line of Swiss, and include:
  • your name
  • your blog’s name and your blog’s URL
  • the recipe name and the post’s URL
  • your hometown/region and country

I will post the round-up by Swiss National Day, August 1st, so please check back then!

*Swiss National Day
Since 1891, the first of August has been celebrated as Swiss National Day. The date refers to a historic alliance concluded in 1291 by the three cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden. Men from these three cantons „at the beginning of the month of August 1291“ swore eternal allegiance to one another, promising mutual help and assistance (Oath on Rütli).

  1. Well it so happens I just posted about something red, and also about life in Switzerland! I will go back and add a link to your post if that’s OK. I hope you don’t feel too homesick! (I must say, Switzerland in the summer is fabulous…)

  2. Hi Zorra! I hope I have time to join this event, as I hardly ever cook Swiss food and look forward to the challenge of hopefully discovering something new :)

  3. Hola:

    Besos y gracias
