Daring Bakers – Tiramisù

The February 2010 Daring Bakers challenge was hosted by Aparna of My Diverse Kitchen and Deeba of Passionate About Baking. They chose Tiramisu as the challenge for the month. Their challenge recipe is based on recipes from The Washington Post, Cordon Bleu at Home and Baking Obsession.

We always have plenty of time to complete the challenge. Even so form time to time I manage to do it at last minute. So it happened this month. I just started yesterday, too late! Because this challenge required about 2 to 3 days preparation time (including refrigeration) to the time the Tiramisù is served. Do you see the dilemma?

Psst, with some cheating, I managed to finish the challenge. As requested I did bake the ladyfingers. Of course the batter was too liquid and once in the oven it smelled like omelet. I mentioned this in the DB forum. Aparna was so kind calming me down. She wrote the smell of eggs will disappear in the finished Tiramisu. Then I prepared the zabaglione with Amaretto and the vanilla pastry cream, both without any problem. Of course there was no time to make the Mascarpone. Luckily I can buy it here and honestly making Mascarpone has nothing to do with baking, so I feel only a bit guilty I didn’t make it. ;-)

It’s marked Jack Daniels on the glasses I used Amaretto though! ;-)

  1. Nice glasses. I was about to cheat on the mascarpone, too, because mine was way too firm. I ended up using it anyway. And I’ll give the mascarpone another try…

  2. Mmm…yum!
I would let this get through, you definitely did the challenge! They look delicious and you should try making your own mascarpone just for fun.

  3. Beautiful tiramisu! I love the little Jack Daniels glasses, even if they don’t match what’s inside the tiramisu. Great job with this challenge!

  4. Hola Zorra, well you just proved that time isn’t an issue with Tiramisu ;-) It looks just perfect in those big glasses! And I am very impressed that you did everything in just one day! I hope you set and the end of the day with your divine dessert and your feet high up on the sofa :-)
    Un fuerte abrazo,
    Lara

I know the story very well, Zo, we truly are plenty of time but come to the end of the month with most challenges undone or half executed!
I had more than DB expiring today but could not attend all.
Never mind, we are human and with a real acrive life outside the blog too!
But this month DB challenge was really luxury and elegant, and your glasses are gorgeous!
But do try homemade mascarpone once, it is really worthwhile!
    Besos!
